The intense snowfall left accumulations of between 30 and 55 centimeters at high altitudes of the Pyrenees this Saturday, especially affecting regions such as Pallars Sobirà, Cerdanya, Ripollès, and Vall d'Aran. In fact, the accumulation forced the closure of the C-28 road at the Bonaigua pass due to the high risk of avalanches.
The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) recorded up to 56 centimeters in Certascan, 50 in Malniu, 42 in Bonabé, 39 in Núria, 35 in Sasseuva, and 32 in Lac Redon. Snow reached all the valleys, with notable measurements of 25 centimeters in Esterri d'Àneu, 23 in Vielha, and 18 in Puigcerdà.
In addition to the closure of the Bonaigua pass, access to the BV-4024 at Coll de Pal is also restricted due to strong winds and snow. Furthermore, special equipment is mandatory for driving on the C-28 in Alt Àneu and the C-142b in Naut Aran. Other secondary roads in the area show accumulations of snow and ice on the pavement.
The Allaucat Plan remains on pre-alert, and there is a warning for a high risk of avalanches in the Aran – Franja Nord Pallaresa area. At high altitudes, the phenomenon of the blizzard (torb) significantly reduces visibility, increasing the danger.
The Agents Rurals (Rural Agents) have requested caution and reported restrictions on access to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, with the Espot sector completely barred to vehicles. The Servei Català de Trànsit reminds drivers traveling to the area to exercise extreme caution, carry chains, ensure a full fuel tank, warm clothing, and a charged mobile phone.
