The restoration and conservation works of the Creu del Terme, located in the Plaça de les Monges, began this week in Bell-lloc d'Urgell. The intervention was decided after a resident alerted about a new crack in the piece, confirmed by municipal technicians.
The Generalitat de Catalunya, through its Culture Commission, gave the green light to the restoration project in early September, a necessary requirement as it is a National Heritage Asset (BCIN).
The work will include cleaning fungi and lichens, removing inadequate materials, cleaning the stone, and consolidating and repairing cracks and fissures. A specific treatment will also be applied to the metal part of the cross.
The project also includes digitalization of the cross using high-resolution photography to create a "virtual" archive of this heritage and historical element of the municipality.
The total duration of the intervention is expected to be between 4 and 6 weeks.
