The Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, visited the start of the works to connect the Garrigues Sud irrigation network with the Montsant irrigators, ensuring supply to six municipalities in Priorat and Ribera d'Ebre.

The new infrastructure, which involves an investment of 2,264,300.72 euros, aims primarily to guarantee the water supply to the Montsant irrigators, who currently rely exclusively on the reserves of the Margalef reservoir.
This project, expected to last six months, will ensure an allocation of 190 cubic meters per hectare for irrigators during peak demand periods, even in situations of extreme drought.

"The Government must get to work to modernize irrigation systems and be more resilient and better prepared."

The municipalities that will directly benefit from this vital connection are Margalef, la Bisbal de Montsant, Cabacés, la Vilella Baixa, la Figuera, and la Palma d'Ebre, thus strengthening the region's water security.
