Òmnium Cultural announced this Thursday the ten finalist novels for the Òmnium Prize for the Best Novel of the Year, which carries a prize of 25,000 euros and will be awarded on March 14 at the new Nit de les Lletres Catalanes gala.

The organization confirmed a change in the selection process: the jury will now choose the winner directly from the ten finalists, streamlining the process which previously involved a shortlist of three. The award ceremony moves from January to March.
The list of finalists includes prominent authors such as Miquel de Palol for Abans més que Encara (Navona) and Toni Sala with Escenaris (L’Altra Editorial).
Other nominated works are La gran família by Antònia Carré-Pons, L’home que va vendre el món by Melcior Comes, Si una família by Alba Dalmau, Virgil by Quim Español, Guerra, victòria, demà by Carles Fenollosa, Els claustres by Víctor García Tur, Demolició by Llort, and Els crits by Víctor Recort.

"The list of nominated works proposed by the committee demonstrates once again the literary quality that emerges year after year throughout the Catalan Countries, from Valencia to Girona, passing through Sa Pobla, Terrassa, or Barcelona."

Xavier Antich · President of Òmnium Cultural
Established in 2017, the prize aims to match the prestige of international awards such as the French Goncourt and the English Booker. It also seeks to promote literature in the Catalan language, encourage translation, and revitalize the publishing sector.
