The Passeig de l'Ebre in Flix hosted the fourth edition of the Shopping Night Market on Saturday, an event that has become a key fixture for promoting local commerce. The evening attracted hundreds of people, combining commercial activity, music, gastronomy, and community participation, receiving highly positive feedback from organizers and participating businesses.
The event kicked off at six in the evening with around twenty stalls. Despite initial high temperatures, public attendance steadily increased as the day progressed and the weather became more pleasant, filling the venue with visitors interested in the commercial offerings and scheduled activities.
Several local entities, including the Senior Citizens Association, Club Patí Flix, and the Colla Castellera Los Xiquets de Flix, actively participated, helping to energize the space and reinforce the initiative's community spirit.
A significant moment was the inaugural Local Commerce Legacy Recognition Awards. Spearheaded by the Flix City Council with support from the Union of Merchants of Flix, this initiative honored businesses that have significantly shaped the municipality's commercial and social history.
“"Local commerce has played and continues to play a fundamental role in the life of the municipality."
The ceremony, hosted by Helena Blanch, featured Rita Costa, president of the Union of Merchants of Flix; Cristina Ferrús, Councillor for Commerce; and Francesc Barbero, Mayor of Flix, all of whom emphasized the importance of local trade.
Three historic establishments were recognized: Fotografia i Llibreria-Papereria Mestres, with origins in the late 19th century, represented by Isabel Mestres Rodes; Recanvis Sabaté (Casa El Sant), involved in mechanics and hardware since the early 20th century, represented by Maria José Sabaté; and Barberia Pujol, represented by Francisco Pujol Passarius, considered the oldest documented business in town, with nearly two centuries of history on the Plaça Major.
The day concluded with prize draws for shopping vouchers, organized by the Union of Merchants and the City Council, alongside other raffles by the League Against Cancer and the Colla Castellera Los Xiquets de Flix.
Merchants expressed high satisfaction with the event, noting the large evening turnout, the positive reception of activities, and the success of introducing the legacy awards.
The Flix City Council acknowledged the efforts of the Union of Merchants and participating businesses in boosting the local economy, strengthening community ties, and highlighting the vital role of proximity commerce for the vitality of towns.
The strong response from residents confirms the Shopping Night Market's status as a key event on the local calendar and reinforces the commitment to collaborate on strengthening local commerce and honoring the legacy of those who have built it over generations.
