The Memorialibris project, aimed at preserving local history and empowering young people, has brought together writer Oriol Molas, the educational center SES Germans Vila Riera, and the Camprodon Town Council. The initiative began with a proposal to the council to create a book from scratch, which found an ideal fit at the educational institution.
The students conducted interviews to understand the reality of local businesses. Project coordinator and teacher Raül Massanella highlights that the project allowed them to explain the book creation process. The Councilor for Education of the Camprodon Town Council, Marta Marsal, emphasizes the importance of valuing local shopkeepers as the economic, cultural, social, and human engine of the town.
Students from first to fourth year of ESO participated in various stages. First-year students wrote introductory and concluding texts. Second-year students analyzed common commercial behaviors and noted the lack of generational succession in some businesses. Third-year students were responsible for rewriting interviews, using artificial intelligence to improve texts without losing the essence of the interviewees, as explained by Carla Marsal and Jana Antúnez. Finally, fourth-year students managed the editing, venue requests for the presentation, and coordination with shops and bookstores, a task detailed by Maria Casanova and Laia Collboni.
The publication, which entered production this May, is expected to be ready before summer. Laia Collboni points out that the editing and cover design, often unseen, are essential parts of the book.
