Sílvia Ripoll (Junts) has been sworn in as the new mayor of Roses this Saturday, securing nine out of seventeen councilor votes, thereby fulfilling the government pact established with the PSC and Gent de Poble.

The extraordinary plenary session held at midday formalized the change of mandate at the Roses Town Hall. Sílvia Ripoll Cayuela, a councilwoman for Junts, achieved an absolute majority with nine out of seventeen possible votes, following the government agreement signed in 2023. This pact stipulated that Josep Maria Martínez Chinchilla (PSC) would serve as mayor for the first three years, with Ripoll taking over until the next municipal elections.
In her investiture speech, the new mayor expressed her intention to lead "a close, accessible, and open mayoralty." Ripoll emphasized her preference for "politics that is done alongside the people: listening before deciding, dialoguing before confronting, and seeking solutions rather than excuses." Her commitment is to work towards making Roses "a benchmark in l'Empordà, where living, working, and entrepreneurship are possible."
The session began with the official resignation of the outgoing mayor, Josep Maria Martínez Chinchilla, who justified his decision by "fulfilling the 2023-2027 legislative pact." Martínez will retain his position as a councilor. During his address, he reviewed his term, highlighting "municipal stability and fluid coordination between departments."
Following the resignation, the first deputy mayor, Fèlix Llorens Palou, opened the floor for candidate nominations. Four names were put forward: Joan Plana Sagué (ERC), Sílvia Ripoll Cayuela (Junts), Pere Gotanegra Julià (Lliures), and Ignasi Mulleras Vinzia (Vox). The PSC, Gent del Poble de Roses, and PP groups decided not to present any candidates.
The vote, conducted by a show of hands, confirmed the support of the nine councilors from Junts per Roses, the PSC, and Gent del Poble de Roses for Ripoll's candidacy. Upon being proclaimed mayor, she took the oath of office and received the mayoral staff from Martínez.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Congress deputies Marta Madrenas and Josep M. Cervera, Parliament deputies Sònia Martínez and M. Àngels Planas, the Catalan auditor general Ferran Roquer, former mayors of Roses, mayors from the region, and other local representatives.
