The Salvem Cal Macià platform has warned of the "critical" deterioration of Casa Vallmanya in Alcarràs, accusing administrations of paralysis despite a funding agreement signed in December 2023.

The popular platform Salvem Cal Macià has issued a new alarm regarding the “irreversible” deterioration suffered by Casa Vallmanya. One of its members, Ferran Dalmau, stressed that the building's condition is "critical" and that the process has accelerated due to recent episodes of rain and snow.

"If a few months ago we were already saying that the house was in a critical situation, imagine how it is today. The gradual demolition is advancing and affects more surface area every time."

Ferran Dalmau · Member of Salvem Cal Macià
The situation is attributed to the "paralysis" of the administrations, despite having legal tools like the Catalan Cultural Heritage Law to intervene, either by purchasing, expropriating, or carrying out subsidiary action. It should be recalled that in December 2023, the Generalitat, the Diputació de Lleida, and the Alcarràs City Council signed an agreement to negotiate the purchase and allocate 920,000 euros for its restoration.
The process, however, is stalled. Sources from the Alcarràs City Council attributed the deadlock to the owner demanding double the agreed price, around 250,000 euros, a figure the council considers "unaffordable." Nevertheless, the declaration of the property as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) by the Generalitat could give the executive more leverage to unblock the problem.

"To say that 200,000 euros is a huge price is ridiculous. It is the price of a two or three-bedroom apartment in Lleida. For an administration like the Generalitat to say it cannot afford this expense is a lack of respect."

Ferran Dalmau · Member of Salvem Cal Macià
The platform accuses the City Council of "direct complicity" with the degradation and the Generalitat of a passive attitude, despite having direct competencies as a BCIN. Dalmau warned that the situation could end up in court, suggesting the possible commission of an alleged crime against heritage and a crime of malfeasance.
