These devices aim to enhance citizen security and act as a deterrent against crime. As reported by the council, the cameras will facilitate the identification of vehicles considered of police interest, which can be crucial for investigating robberies, thefts, and other criminal incidents.
The system operates in compliance with current data protection regulations. The management of recorded images will be under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Citizen Security. This initiative follows the example of other municipalities in the region such as El Palau d’Anglesola and Linyola, which already have similar technology.
The Ministry of the Interior had previously announced a line of aid for the installation of these types of cameras in municipalities without their own police force. The investment made in Benavent de Segrià amounts to 25,000 euros, financed entirely with municipal funds.
