The Lleida region has recorded two deaths attributable to excessive heat since the start of summer, with temperatures surpassing 41 degrees in several locations.

The Lleida region has recorded two fatalities linked to excessive heat since the beginning of the summer period. According to data from the MoMo system of the Carlos III Institute, the deaths occurred on Sunday and Monday, affecting individuals over 65 years old.
The heatwave has brought extreme temperatures to the region. Alcarràs reached Catalonia's highest temperature at 41.4 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Lleida and Alfarràs, with 41.3 and 41.2 degrees respectively. Other municipalities such as Vilanova de Segrià, Seròs, Torres de Segre, Vallfogona de Balaguer, and Castellnou de Seana also exceeded 40 degrees.
The Emergency Medical System (SEM) has attended to 151 people in Catalonia since last Friday due to high temperatures, which reached 43 degrees Celsius in Vilanova de Segrià, one of the highest readings ever recorded before Sant Joan. Approximately half of these cases required transfer to a healthcare facility by ambulance.
Civil Protection maintains a heatwave alert in Catalonia, particularly in the Ponent regions, until today. Concurrently, the Infocat plan has been activated on pre-alert due to the forecast of high temperatures, low humidity, and risks associated with the Sant Joan festivities, prompting several municipalities to activate their local plans.
