The Lleida City Council and the Provincial Council of Lleida finalized the sale of Edullesa shares this Wednesday. With an investment of 122,000 euros, the Lleida council becomes the main shareholder of the customs station, a strategic move that facilitates the entity's future merger with Mercolleida.
The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, highlighted that the union will be approved in upcoming board meetings. The primary objective of this operation is to "optimize and improve the management" of the commercial entities, preparing them for future challenges such as the intermodal freight station planned for the Torreblanca-Quatre Pilans industrial park.
The Provincial Council of Lleida, chaired by Joan Talarn, justified its exit from Edullesa as a measure to "improve the management of Lleida's economy". The provincial body maintains its commitment to the economic development of the region through other projects like the Agrobiotech park in Gardeny and the Torreblanca-Quatre Pilans industrial park.
As a preliminary step to the merger, Mercolleida had already approved a service provision contract. This agreement stipulates that the agricultural market will assume the direction, administrative management, accounting, and monitoring of Edullesa, as well as the rental of its facilities, ensuring the customs station's viability.
Mayor Larrosa emphasized Edullesa's key role in "the internationalization of Lleida's economy and the promotion of the agri-food sector". He stressed the need to adapt the entity, along with Mercolleida, in anticipation of the upcoming launch of the intermodal freight station in Torreblanca, in order to "have a true agent that decisively contributes to facilitating procedures, preparing paperwork, and boosting our export model".
The customs station Edullesa, located in the El Segre industrial park, is a temporary deposit warehouse crucial for Lleida's industry, particularly the agri-food sector. It enables the management of all necessary procedures for importing and exporting products outside the European Union, and is primarily participated in by the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and Afrucat.
