The Seu Vella in Lleida hosted the unitary act of the Diada de Catalunya, presided over by the Minister of Social Rights and Inclusion, Raül Moreno, accompanied by Mayor Fèlix Larrosa, the President of the Provincial Council, Joan Talarn, and the Government delegate, Núria Gil.
Mayor Fèlix Larrosa defined Catalonia as "a plural and diverse country" built on democracy and freedoms. He recalled the Diada of 1976 and stressed that "rights and freedoms are achieved, but they must also be cared for, exercised, and defended every day".
Larrosa emphasized the shared responsibility of building "a cohesive, solidary Catalonia with opportunities for all," where diversity is a strength and coexistence a collective heritage, highlighting Lleida's role in this construction.
He also advocated for peace, "which is cultivated daily with education, respect, and dialogue," and commitment to memory. He added that "defending democracy means respect and vigilance," including respecting those who think differently and defending strong institutions.
For his part, Minister Raül Moreno highlighted Lleida as a "land of work, effort, and solidarity" and remembered Josep Vallverdú and Ricard Viñes. He advocated for a plural Catalonia with a strong welfare state.
The President of the Provincial Council, Joan Talarn, mentioned Josep Vallverdú and defended sovereignty, self-determination, democracy, and trust as a country.
The Government delegate, Núria Gil, highlighted the need to work for plurality, integration, and diversity to strengthen social cohesion, stating that "Catalonia will be stronger the stronger each of its territories is".
The event featured musical performances by the Coral Maristes Montserrat and the Orquestra Julià Carbonell, as well as recitals of texts by Josep Vallverdú by Nú Miret.
The authorities laid a floral offering at the monolith in memory of the victims of the War of Succession in Lleida, at the drawbridge, escorted by the Guardia Urbana de Gala.
