Ten participants have started the third edition of the 'A Month Without My Car' initiative in Lleida, as part of Mobility Week, with the goal of promoting alternatives to private vehicle use.

The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Security, Mobility, and Civism, Cristina Morón, welcomed the volunteers who will use alternative transport methods to private vehicles for thirty days. This edition introduces the novelty of using the shared electric car from the cooperative Sommobilitat, in addition to traveling on foot, by urban public transport, or by electric and conventional bicycle. A total of about thirty people have participated across the three editions of the initiative.
The main objective is to raise public awareness about the benefits of alternative transport to private vehicles, highlighting that they are faster, less polluting, and healthier. "We continue to take actions to promote sustainable mobility, and this initiative aims to provide citizens with options to leave their cars at home and travel around the city in a sustainable way," stated Councilor Morón.
Throughout the month of the initiative, the Paeria will provide participants with a kit including a transport pass for Lleida's buses, an electric bicycle (with accessories like a helmet and lock), a conventional bicycle, a pedometer watch, a cloth bag, a reusable bottle, a fan, and a painting bag. Additionally, expert mobility technicians will offer participants advice on their chosen modes of transport.
"It is a small initiative, but it is very well-received and encourages the people of Lleida to move around our city in a different way," emphasized Morón.
This initiative is inspired by the experience carried out in the city of Payerne, in the Swiss region of Broye. Both the first edition of A Month Without My Car and the municipal project LABici were recognized by the "Red Ciudades que caminan" (Network of Walking Cities) as examples of good practices in urban mobility.
