A large-scale community artwork, dubbed a shade veil, has been woven by 92 volunteer women as part of the Lleida Cuida program. This initiative, now in its third edition under the theme “Weaving the Historic Center,” is solidifying as a citizen-led project with a strong intercultural, intergenerational, and community focus.
The primary goal is the collective creation of this textile installation, which will not only provide shade and visually transform a section of the Historic Center but also foster coexistence and social relationships. Acting Mayor Cristina Morón highlighted the initiative's importance in an increasingly warm city, contributing to citizen protection and city unity.
The installation consists of hundreds of crochet pieces, known as granny squares, made by the participants. It will be located on Cavallers street, as part of the Obert del Centre Històric event, extending from the corner of Major street to the vicinity of the Parador de Lleida, turning the area into a visible symbol of citizen participation.
This edition marks a step forward with the inclusion of professional artistic direction by Rosa Àngela Galindo Zarco, president of the Mexican Association of Lleida (AMEXELL) and founder of Crochet de Rose. Galindo guides participants through the creative process to unite individual pieces into a single collective artwork, stating it is an act of "love for the city." The project also collaborates with the Association of Monitors and Educators of Lleida (AMELL), enhancing its intercultural dimension and strengthening bonds among women from diverse backgrounds.

The 92 participating women, of various ages and origins, are learning artisanal techniques and engaging in workshops that extend beyond technical skill-building, promoting social cohesion.
