The municipal government has announced that the proposal will be presented at the plenary session on September 25. This initiative is part of the Integral Plan for the Historic Center and represents the first of four areas designated for the construction of new housing in the neighborhood. During this month, received objections are being resolved.
The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, has linked this operation to the desire to restore habitability to the neighborhood. He highlighted that the City Council has acquired ownership of almost all the plots in Plaça del Dipòsit, which will allow for the development of active policies for affordable and sustainable housing. The plan foresees the creation of between 600 and 700 new homes in the neighborhood, including renovations.
Larrosa also took the opportunity to review other projects within the Integral Plan, such as the upcoming presentation of the renovation project for the area around the Centre d’Art la Panera, which will integrate the former church of Sant Martí and include sustainable spaces for neighborhood entities' activities. Additionally, work is underway for the former Cervantes school to house the headquarters of the Consorci de Normalització Lingüística.
In parallel, the City Council has an open call for subsidies to promote the business fabric, with a budget of 180,000 euros for direct aid for the opening of local commercial establishments. The City Council has also put out to tender a sociocultural revitalization contract for the Historic Center worth 1.3 million euros.
