The magistrate of court 4 of the instruction section of the Lleida court of instance has ordered supervised release with therapeutic treatment for a 17-year-old minor. The youth is under investigation for charges of homicide by serious negligence, omission of duty to assist, and driving without a license.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Cunillàs area, in L'Horta de Lleida. According to initial reports, the minor was allegedly driving a vehicle and fatally struck a 35-year-old man, born in Algeria, who was riding an electric scooter.
The accident took place on an asphalted road near the N-230 highway, within the municipality of Torrefarrera. Emergency services received the alert at 8:20 PM reporting an unconscious scooter user with injuries.
Ambulances from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) and patrols from the Guardia Urbana and Mossos d'Esquadra were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics confirmed the death of the scooter rider.
The personal mobility device (VMP) was found on the roadside, while the victim was lying several meters away in a cereal field. The on-call court has deferred the case to the minors' section of the Lleida court of instance, which is the competent body to continue the investigation.
