Man dies in paragliding accident in Lleida Pyrenees

The victim had jumped from the popular takeoff area of Àger and an investigation has been opened to clarify the causes.

A man died this Saturday in a paragliding accident near the takeoff point of Àger, in the Lleida Pyrenees. The area is frequented by fans of motorless flight.

A man died this Saturday in a paragliding accident that occurred one kilometer from the takeoff point of Àger (Lleida). It is a popular cliff area, near the Pyrenees, frequently visited by fans of base jumping and motorless flight. An investigation has been opened to clarify the causes of the fatal accident.
As reported by the Generalitat Firefighters, at 12:58 PM they received the alert of this accident, activating an helicopter from the Air Media unit, with personnel from the Special Actions Group (GRAE) of la Seu d’Urgell and a doctor from the System of Medical Emergencies (SEM).
After locating the victim, the Generalitat emergency personnel continued with cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers that had been initiated by a nurse present in the area, but they could not save his life.
A ground support unit from the volunteer fire station of Àger, as well as three SEM ambulances, the Mountain Intervention Unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra, and two patrols of the Catalan police, also attended the scene. They will open an investigation to clarify the events.
