The executive commission of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) yesterday appointed Oriol Yuguero as the new manager of the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital. Yuguero, currently the territorial director of Emergencies for Lleida and Alt Pirineu i Aran, will replace Alfons Segarra, who retired last March. This marks the first time the ICS has used a public call for applications to fill a hospital management position.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that next Monday, the board of the public company Gestió de Serveis Sanitaris (GSS) will appoint him as manager for the Santa Maria and Pallars hospitals, as well as the Balàfia I and II residences and the Nadal Meroles socio-sanitary center.
Yuguero is a specialist in Family and Community Medicine and in Emergency Medicine. He has dedicated over a decade of his professional career to Arnau de Vilanova, driving the coordination and transformation of the emergency services in the region. He is an associate professor of Medicine at the UdL and a collaborating professor at the UOC.
He also leads the ERLab group in emergencies at IRBLleida and received the ICS Young Investigator Award in 2021. His involvement in healthcare ethics includes chairing the Ethics Committee of the Lleida health region and participating in advisory bodies for healthcare system transformation.
Yuguero also has political experience, having served as a councilor for the Paeria de Lleida between 2007 and 2015. He regularly contributes opinion articles to the newspaper Segre.
