Heatwave Peak: 43ºC in Segrià, Second Highest Temperature Before Sant Joan

The second day of the heatwave saw highs of 43ºC in Vilanova de Segrià, in Segrià, marking the second-highest temperature ever recorded before Sant Joan by Meteocat.

The maximum temperature of 43ºC recorded in Vilanova de Segrià, in Segrià, this Sunday was the highest of the year and the second-highest ever before Sant Joan according to the stations of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya. This value was reached after six in the evening.
Other locations experienced extreme temperatures, with Lleida reaching 42.4ºC and Alcarràs 42.1ºC. Several stations in the regions of Ponent, Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre, and Catalunya Central exceeded 41ºC, such as Vinebre (41.8ºC), Castellnou de Seana (41.6ºC), or Torroja del Priorat (41.5ºC).
This mark of 43ºC in Vilanova de Segrià fell just a tenth short of the absolute record set on June 15, 2022, when 43.1ºC were registered at the Riba-roja reservoir. On that same day, Vinebre reached 42.6ºC.
Historically, the highest June maximum according to Meteocat occurred on June 29, 2019, with 43.8ºC in Alcarràs. During that heatwave, Lleida city recorded 43.1ºC on the same day and 42.5ºC the day before. Excluding these historical records, this Sunday's temperature was the most extreme for a June day in the capital of Segrià.
Intense heat was also felt in El Poal (41.7ºC), Gimenells (41.6ºC), Alfarràs (41.6ºC), and Torres de Segre (41.5ºC), where temperatures exceeded 40ºC after five in the afternoon.
In the central regions, Artés recorded 41.4ºC, one degree higher than Cardona (40.4ºC). In Camp de Tarragona, Priorat led in high temperatures, with elevated values in Torroja del Priorat and El Masroig (40.4ºC). In Ribera d’Ebre, Vinebre's 41.8ºC surpassed the 39.9ºC from the Riba-roja reservoir and the 39.7ºC from Ascó.
