One-third of the 61 new medical interns (MIR) who will commence their training at the Arnau de Vilanova hospital, Santa Maria hospital, and local primary care centers (CAPs) in the Lleida region are originally from the province. Among them is a young woman from Aitona who will fill the first Emergency Medicine position.
Regarding the new specialist nurses, about ten of the 21 new professionals are also from Lleida. The remaining healthcare professionals starting their residency primarily come from the Valencian Community (around ten) and Aragon (ten more), as well as from other towns in Catalonia and various autonomous communities across Spain. Additionally, about ten new MIR doctors are from outside the EU, hailing from countries such as Cuba, Colombia, Honduras, and Syria.
The welcome event for the 89 new residents, of whom 63 will train in hospital specialties and 26 in Primary Care, was held yesterday in the lecture hall of Arnau de Vilanova. Current residents shared advice with the newcomers on how to navigate this new training phase.
The event was attended by the medical director of Arnau, Carme Cívit; the head of studies for the hospital, Sílvia Bielsa; and the head of studies for Primary Care, Josep Montserrat, among other health authorities.
Concurrently, the Provincial Council of Lleida hosted the third research conference on Primary Care, focused on promoting research in CAPs and highlighting professionals who balance their daily clinical work with innovative research projects.
