The Local Government Board of the Lleida City Council has greenlit the project to complete the recovery and enhancement of the remains of the Casa del Pogrom, which was burned on August 13, 1391. The works, covering approximately 200 square meters with excavations up to 2.5 meters deep, include consolidation and restoration of the vestiges, adhering to principles of minimal intervention and respect for original materials. Lighting and security will also be reinforced, with signage warning of video surveillance and fence repairs.
The project also involves renewing five information panels for the dissemination project “The Voices of La Cuirassa”, featuring texts in Catalan and Spanish, and a QR code with versions in English, French, and Hebrew. This initiative is part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Historic Center promoted by the City Council and is funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya's Plan de Barrios y Villas de Catalunya 2025-2029.
The Jewish quarter of Lleida was home to the Jewish community until their expulsion in 1492, being one of the most significant in the Crown of Aragon. Between 2017 and 2018, a 6,000 m² park was excavated and urbanized in this area, and last year new archaeological surveys were conducted, completing the process for its protection as a Site of Local Cultural Interest.
Furthermore, the Local Government Board has approved the application for two grants from the Generalitat de Catalunya to promote Catalan locally. 5,000 euros are requested for promotional campaigns in commerce and restoration, and 3,000 euros for studies on linguistic usage. These actions align with the strategic plan for promoting the use of Catalan by the Lleida City Council.
