The new concessionaire for the city's cleaning and waste collection service in Lleida has begun receiving new containers and has hired 51 people, significantly boosting street cleaning operations.

The service rollout is being conducted progressively. The city now has its first small auxiliary machinery, with new sweepers and collection trucks expected by the end of the year. The replacement of the city's 2,840 containers (for packaging, paper, glass, general waste, and organic waste) with new models will be completed by early March. Additionally, the 49 existing underground containers will be decommissioned.
Since the contract began two months ago, 51 new employees have been hired, representing a 28% increase in direct street cleaning staff. This expansion has allowed for enhanced work shifts, particularly in the morning and afternoon, and improved services such as brush clearing, 24-hour immediate collection, manual and mechanical sweeping, bin cleaning, and high-pressure washing. Collections for packaging, paper, bulky items, and commercial cardboard have also been strengthened.
The implementation of cleaning services is currently at an average of 77%, with waste collection at 82% and the 'Punto Limpio' (civic amenity site) at 89.5%. New machinery, including brush cutters, blowers, electric sweepers, and cleaning equipment, has started arriving and is expected to be fully integrated by the end of November. New sweepers are due before December 19th, and collection trucks will be operational by the end of 2026.
The company has also expanded its facilities with three new sites that will serve as civic amenity points and operational bases, reducing staff travel times and improving service accessibility for residents.
