The Local Government Board has given initial approval to the first phase of the flood containment project for the Segre river in the urban section of Lleida, focusing on widening the wall of the Camps Elisis Park. The action involves closing a 360-meter permeable opening with a new reinforced concrete wall or a thicker capping piece, depending on the section. This work, with a budget of €410,227.32 (VAT included) and a two-month execution period, is part of the projects promoted by the Lleida City Council to reduce flood risks, ensuring resistance to maximum predicted flows for 100-year periods.
This first phase will be complemented by future actions to increase the hydraulic capacity of the canalization and reconstruct additional walls. In parallel, projects have been approved to improve urban accessibility. In Plaça Sant Joan, the escalators and the elevator connecting to Canyeret street will be completely renovated. The electronic installation of the two elevators linking this area to the Turó de la Seu Vella will also be changed, although their cabins and machinery were already renewed in 2021.
Additionally, the elevator in Plaça de l'Escorxador, which overcomes the slope of the Serreta to reach Doctor Combelles street, will be fully renovated. The combined budget for these accessibility improvements amounts to €584,482.22 (VAT included), with a six-month execution period.
Another approved project is the first phase of rehabilitation of the Gardeny barracks 5 to house the second large warehouse of the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC), intended for the preservation of infrequently used books and documents from university libraries. This space, covering 5,398.75 m², will also accommodate facilities for the Municipal Archive of Lleida. The budget for this phase is €3,097,124.18 (VAT included) with a 6-month execution period.
