The intervention has allowed for the updating of spaces dedicated to traditional society, the restoration of the historic building's facade, and the improvement of accessibility, sustainability, and collection conservation conditions. The project was funded by the Provincial Council of Girona, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the Arbúcies City Council.
This opening coincides with the museum's 40th anniversary, an institution that for four decades has focused on research, conservation, and dissemination of the region's heritage and the relationship between people and their environment.
This latest phase marks the culmination of an ambitious program of remodeling and museographic updating. The main La Gabella site now features over 2,500 square meters and 18 permanent exhibition halls, along with audiovisual spaces, detailing the history of Montseny from the earliest evidence of human settlement to more recent times.
The renovations specifically targeted the first-floor central halls dedicated to traditional society, establishing a more ordered and coherent new museographic route. While maintaining the chronological perspective, the project now gives greater weight to thematic areas for a more transversal reading.
The intervention also included the restoration of the historic building's facade and the modernization of interior spaces, adhering to current criteria for sustainability, accessibility, gender perspective, social dimension, and preventive conservation.
Key improvements include the construction of new display cases, the installation of LED lighting, and the renovation of graphics. Climate control systems have also been updated to optimize object conservation and promote more economically and environmentally sustainable facilities.
