The council chamber of the Arbúcies City Council hosted yesterday afternoon the constitution ceremony of the Children's Council for the 2026-2027 academic year. During the session, Atena Chico was elected the new mayor of the Children's Council and Iu Fontbona, the new deputy mayor. The new council comprises 13 councillors elected from the student body of the municipality's two schools.
In her speech, the new mayor expressed her enthusiasm and gratitude for taking on this responsibility and representing the municipality's children. Chico highlighted her commitment to listening to her colleagues' ideas and working to improve Arbúcies.
“"I am very happy and excited for this great opportunity to improve the town and contribute all the ideas we have"
The Children's Council is a municipal initiative that introduces children in Arbúcies to the workings of the City Council and democratic participation. Through this platform, children can express their opinions, put forward proposals, and voice student concerns to contribute to the municipality's improvement.
The 13 representatives act as spokespersons for their peers, working to gather their ideas and needs. Throughout the academic year, council sessions allow for the debate of proposals and viewpoints, reaching agreements, and gaining a close understanding of how municipal institutions function.
