From noon until five in the afternoon on Friday, January 9, the Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) had to respond to various incidents caused by strong winds in the northern metropolitan region and Maresme. The main operations focused on removing fallen trees and branches, pergolas, and terrace elements at risk of detachment onto public roads.
In the Selva region, specifically in Anglès, personnel intervened in a housing development that lost power due to fallen cables. The 112 emergency phone has managed a total of 40 calls so far, 15% of which came from Maresme, mostly concerning detached facades, awnings, and urban furniture.
Wind gusts have reached 135 km/h at Puig Sesolles, in Vallès Oriental, and the winds are expected to generally exceed 72 km/h across the territory.
Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) maintains the wind alert and warns of the risk of blizzards (torb) in the Pyrenees, advising extreme caution when driving, especially on mountain roads. Drivers are reminded to carry a full tank, chains, warm clothing, and a charged mobile phone. The wind episode is expected to continue until Saturday 10 afternoon, albeit with decreasing intensity.
