The Municipal Library of Lloret de Mar commemorates the centenary of the birth of Blai Bonet, a key figure in contemporary Catalan literature, with a program of four cultural activities.

The Municipal Library of Lloret de Mar joins the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Blai Bonet (Santanyí, Mallorca, 1926-1997), recognized as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Catalan literature. For this occasion, the library has designed a program with four activities to be held between October and December, offering the public various perspectives to learn about the life and career of the Mallorcan writer.
Blai Bonet was known for a unique, vital, and deeply personal literary career, marked by intense spirituality and great creative force. His work spans poetry, novels, journalism, and essays. Although primarily known as a poet, his narrative also holds a significant place in Catalan literature. Among his most notable works is 'El mar' (1958), a novel later adapted into a film by director Agustí Villaronga.
Throughout his career and posthumously, Bonet received numerous accolades, including the Creu de Sant Jordi, the Medalla d'Or de Palma, and the Premi Ramon Llull.
“

"We want these activities to be an entry point into Blai Bonet's universe and for the public to discover an author who, a hundred years after his birth, continues to engage readers."

Gisela Ruiz · Director of the Lloret Library
The program includes four events to explore the author and his work. The first activity, on October 20th at 7 PM, will be the talk-conference 'Igual que un pi de mar: Blai Bonet visionari' (Like a Pine Tree by the Sea: Blai Bonet the Visionary), led by Pau Vadell. This session, which will include a recital, will introduce attendees to the poet's figure and work, from the beginnings of his poetic voice to his legacy in poetry, narrative, and contemporary art.
On November 12th at 6 PM, as part of the 'Històries a tres veus' (Stories in Three Voices) reading club, the Library will host a reading of 'El mar'. The session will feature Txell Lafuente, a Catalan philologist and doctor in Contemporary Literature, and Cristina Quesada, a Catalan and Hispanic philologist, documentalist, and library worker. This activity is open to everyone.
On November 19th at 7 PM, the program continues with the talk-conference 'No sé com ho diria si callava' (I Don't Know How I Would Say It If I Kept Quiet), by Carles Rebassa. The title comes from a verse by Blai Bonet from his first political book, 'Comèdia' (1960). Rebassa will offer a recital-conference that will review some of Bonet's most notable poems.
Finally, from November 30th to December 19th, the Library's Exhibition Hall will host the literary experience 'Blai Bonet: L'escriptor que il·lumina el seu país' (Blai Bonet: The Writer Who Illuminates His Country). This proposal from the Library itself, halfway between an exhibition and a talk, aims to bring Blai Bonet's figure and literary creation closer from an enriching and participatory perspective.
The first three activities will take place in the Multipurpose Room and do not require registration. For more information, consult the website of the Lloret de Mar Library.
