From October 7th to 9th, representatives from the Lloret de Mar City Council and Lloret Turisme attended the 9th European Historic Gardens Forum, held in the Greek capital. This international gathering brought together specialists, researchers, and heritage managers to share experiences and discuss the future of historic gardens in Europe.
The European Network of Historic Gardens (ERHG), initiated in 2016 by the Lloret de Mar City Council, along with the Aranjuez City Council and the Laboratory of Cultural Heritage and Tourism at the University of Barcelona, currently comprises 56 European gardens and entities. Since 2020, it has been recognized as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
“"Lloret de Mar was one of the driving municipalities of the European Route of Historic Gardens, with the Santa Clotilde Gardens as a benchmark. It is a source of pride that an initiative born here has grown to bring together 56 European gardens and entities."
The Santa Clotilde Gardens, a cultural asset attracting over 120,000 visitors annually, are notable for their Novecentist style. This space integrates staircases, sculptures, and Mediterranean views, blending nature and architecture. It serves as a venue for visits, film shoots, photography sessions, and events.
The annual forum in Athens addressed fundamental challenges for the conservation of these sites, including adaptation to climate change, sustainable water management, and biodiversity protection. The meeting featured scientific presentations, discussion forums, the network's annual assembly, and visits to Athenian heritage sites.
