The Institute of Seniors and Social Services (IMSERSO) has activated an economic aid of 525 Euros per year for pensioners in vulnerable situations. This aid is intended for those who receive a non-contributory pension, either for retirement or disability, and who also live in rented housing, with the aim of alleviating housing costs.
This benefit is granted annually through a single payment, and it is verified that all established conditions are met to access it.
To access this state supplement, applicants must strictly meet the following requirements: be a recipient of a non-contributory retirement or disability pension (contributory pensions are excluded), not own property, and reside in rented accommodation with a contract in the pensioner's name and a minimum duration of one year. Furthermore, the rented dwelling must be the habitual residence, demonstrable with a minimum of 180 days of prior residence before the application. Finally, the landlord cannot have any kinship up to the third degree or be the pensioner's de facto partner.
The management and processing of applications, although it is a state aid, are transferred to the Autonomous Communities. Interested parties must submit the official application form to the regional social services or the territorial directorates of the IMSERSO in Ceuta and Melilla. The deadline to submit documentation for the current year ends on December 31st.
This aid, in effect since 2007, represents significant financial support for many vulnerable pensioners across the country, and the speed of payment will depend on the administrative efficiency of each community.
