The Centre de Coordinació Operativa de Catalunya (CECAT) has issued a statement based on predictions from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya, announcing a probability of precipitation exceeding 40 mm in 30 minutes and 60 mm in a few hours in the Camp de Tarragona region. The most intense episode is expected late on Friday, August 21st, and during the early hours of Saturday, August 22nd.
The downpours could be accompanied by thunderstorms, locally by hail or small stones, and strong gusts of wind. Given this situation, it is recommended to take safety measures, such as avoiding access to open or unstable areas.
At home, it is requested to check the condition of roofs, gutters, and drains to ensure proper water circulation. In case of water entering the house, do not go down to flooded areas such as basements or garages.
Outdoors, it is forbidden to cross streams, torrents, underpasses, or flooded areas, either on foot or by vehicle. It is recommended to seek shelter in a safe building and close doors and windows well. Flooding may also occur along the coast due to rough seas and large waves.
For those who have to drive, maximum caution is advised, as obstacles or water accumulations may be encountered on the road. It is recommended to prioritize main routes and highways, reduce speed, and maintain safe distances.
In Salou, during the peak risk hours, all outdoor scheduled activities are suspended.
