The Catalan company NIU, located in Altafulla, has unveiled NIU·CLIC, a feminist security solution that leverages NFC technology. This system enables the rapid and straightforward transmission of an emergency alert with real-time location, requiring neither app installation nor prior registration.
The device is integrated into everyday objects such as bracelets, keychains, or hair ties. In a dangerous situation, users simply need to bring it close to a mobile phone to activate a municipal website and send an SOS message to a trusted contact via WhatsApp, including a tracking link.
The company emphasizes that the system does not store personal data on external servers and that location tracking is only activated during an emergency, automatically deleting itself shortly thereafter. Furthermore, each user can configure and modify their emergency contact at any time, ensuring privacy and control.
The Lleida City Council has been the first to implement this tool, which will be used at Punts Lila (Purple Points) during the Festa Major (from May 8 to 10) and also at the Aplec del Cargol (May 23 and 24). The council has highlighted this deployment as part of its strategy for preventing gender-based violence.
“"The system's objective is to enhance security without surveillance and to place the personal support network at the center of the response to risk situations."
Additionally, NIU·CLIC provides city councils with a platform offering aggregated and anonymous data on system usage. This information will enable better resource planning in public spaces and events, contributing to greater collective safety.
