The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested three men, aged 36, 40, and 51, in Coma-ruga on suspicion of committing a robbery using the 'seed method'. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a commercial center in Creixell, where the detainees approached a victim as they were leaving a supermarket.
The thieves managed to distract the victim and stole a fanny pack containing cash and two mobile phones. The 'seed method' involves dropping a banknote or coins on the ground to trick the victim into believing they have dropped something. While the person bends down to pick it up, the criminals seize the opportunity to steal valuables, such as wallets or bags from the car.
Plainclothes officers from the Torredembarra station detected the suspects in Creixell and alerted authorities about their escape along the N-340 towards El Vendrell. Subsequently, officers from the capital of Baix Penedès set up a roadblock on the highway and managed to stop the vehicle near Coma-ruga.
In this particular case, the victim noticed the theft as the thieves were fleeing and managed to get them to throw the fanny pack. The Mossos later recovered the money the thieves had taken.
To avoid becoming victims of this type of robbery, the Mossos advise shoppers to discreetly load their purchases into their vehicles, remain alert, and keep a close watch on their personal belongings.
