The Catalan Government has approved the modification of the Ebro Observatory Foundation Statutes to boost research, transferring its affiliation to the Department of Research and Universities.

The Government of the Generalitat approved the modification of the Statutes of the Ebro Observatory Foundation, a key decision to reinforce its scientific research work. This change, approved on January 20, 2026, seeks to give greater relevance to the academic function of the organization.
The main consequence of this reform is the change in the department through which the Foundation relates to the Generalitat. This relationship moves from the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition to the Department of Research and Universities, emphasizing the scientific priority.
This restructuring implies an alteration in the composition of the Observatory's Board of Trustees. From now on, the governing body will be chaired by the head of the Department of Research and Universities, Minister Núria Montserrat Pulido.
The Board of Trustees is the administrative body of the Foundation and includes representatives from various entities, such as the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, the Higher Council for Scientific Research, the Tarragona Provincial Council, the National Geographic Institute, and the city councils of Roquetes and Tortosa.
