Six volunteers from the Salou Women's Group are dedicating their time and skills to the artisanal creation of costumes and accessories for the King Jaume I Festival, a key task for local heritage.

The Salou Women's Group, under the presidency of Sílvia Rovira, is involved in the creation and preservation of local heritage through the artisanal crafting of costumes for the King Jaume I Festival. This initiative, promoted by the Salou City Council and the Institut Jaume I, aims to enhance the historical accuracy of the celebration.
In the workshop at the Centre Cívic, group members work with materials such as silk, cotton, and linen to produce costumes and accessories that enrich the historical procession. The main mission is to craft attire for the individuals accompanying King Jaume I, with volunteers possessing a solid sewing background.
This year, costumes have been created for 35 musicians, four nuns from Sixena, three knights, and a monk, in addition to extra skirts for the townswomen. Following a pandemic-related interruption, the project, which began between 2019 and 2020, has seen approximately three years of continuous work.
In total, 163 new costumes will emerge from the workshop, supplementing those provided by an external company to complete the attire for the procession of nearly 300 participants. The involvement of local collectives, entities, and associations is steadily increasing.
Sílvia Rovira emphasizes the group's pride in this altruistic work: "It is an altruistic job that we do thinking of our municipality, and that is our reward." The effort of hand-sewing and meticulously crafting each detail is a valuable contribution to the creation and preservation of Salou's heritage.
