After 20 years of waiting, the long-awaited school in Cap Salou is beginning to materialize. The Generalitat has recently started earthmoving and land development for the site where the first modular classrooms will be installed. The center is set to open its doors next September. Although initially planned for two classes, the school will start the academic year with a single I3 class.
The new center, conceived as an institute-school to cover the educational stages from ages 3 to 16, is located on a municipal plot of 12,000 m2 between Pla de Maset avenue and Fonoll street, in the Estival area. Current work focuses on clearing the land and removing some pine trees to install the provisional modules.
For this first academic year, modules for two infant classrooms will be set up, along with common areas such as a psychomotor skills room, library, dining hall, and an administration zone. The initial area will be 920 m2, with plans to expand the facilities with new modules as student numbers increase. Outdoors, a playground, connecting corridors, accessibility ramps, and a covered area will be created.
The mayor, Pere Granados, has welcomed the start of works that have been demanded by residents and the City Council for almost 20 years. Granados emphasized the defense of this infrastructure before the competent administrations, considering it an essential need for Cap Salou. The council donated the land to the Generalitat for free for the second time in 2023. The Cap Salou area has seen consistent population growth in recent years, currently having around 700 school-aged children registered.
