The Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat, Albert Dalmau, defended on Friday in Tarragona the candidacy of Móra la Nova to host an artificial intelligence gigafactory. Dalmau stated that the project "will aim to win" when the European Commission opens the application process before the summer.
Dalmau made these remarks during the presentation of the Tarragona 2026 Business Excellence Guide, organized by the Diari de Tarragona at the Port of Tarragona. The event brought together a significant portion of the region's economic and business fabric.
The minister affirmed that the Generalitat has "done its homework" and that the consortium responsible for promoting "a winning Iberian bid" will be presented soon. He emphasized that the Government will be part of this consortium and that Móra la Nova will be one of the central pillars of the project, reiterating: "We are promoting this bid to win it".
During the business event, Dalmau highlighted that artificial intelligence has arrived "to change everything" and advocated for Catalonia to play a leading role in research, innovation, and technological implementation.
The minister also justified the choice of Móra la Nova and the Terres de l’Ebre as a strategic location, pointing out that "strategic national projects must be distributed throughout the territory". In parallel, he announced the creation of a social council to involve the economic fabric and the business and technological ecosystem of the region and the country.
The Tarragona 2026 Business Excellence Guide, published by the Diari de Tarragona with the support of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, annually analyzes the most outstanding companies in the province based on economic, innovation, employment, management, and corporate reputation criteria.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper; the Government delegate in Tarragona, Lucía López; the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales; the CEO of the Diari de Tarragona, Santi Batchilleria; and the president of the Port of Tarragona, Santi Castellà, among other representatives.
In his speech, Dalmau defended the need to "make the country work", reduce bureaucracy, lead the technological race, and foster public-private collaboration. "We must work with generosity and ambition", he concluded.
The event, organized by the Diari de Tarragona at the Port of Tarragona, served to advocate for the region's role in Catalonia's major technological and business projects.
