The Commissioner for Linguistic Policy, Publications, and CRAI at URV, José Antonio Moreno, and the Coordinator of the Linguistic and Publications Service, Jordi de Bofarull, appeared before the Commission for Research and Universities of the Parliament to present the conclusions of the Foro Vives. The meeting served to present the proposals from the Xarxa Vives d’Universitats under the slogan 'How do we respond from the university to the linguistic emergency?'.
The URV representatives pointed to the decline in the social use of Catalan and the process of linguistic substitution as reasons for more decisive institutional action. After diagnosing the situation of Catalan in universities, both in social and institutional uses (teaching and research), they highlighted key proposals from the Foro Vives.
Among the recommendations emphasized are the need for linguistic policy to be a strategic and transversal axis in universities, and for linguistic revitalization to play a more central role. They also advocated for a proactive interpretation of the LOSU and the development of internal regulations to strengthen the legal security of Catalan.
Furthermore, they argued for universities to once again become spaces for linguistic resocialization, ensuring environments where Catalan is a necessary language of use. In research, they called for financial stability for academic publications and urged evaluation agencies not to penalize the use of Catalan. Finally, they requested shock measures in sectors such as education and health.
In response to questions from parliamentary groups, it was announced that the Xarxa Vives will present data collected from the 21 universities within the linguistic domain during this academic year, thanks to a new system of linguistic indicators that will provide comparable information on university language use.
