Unemployment Drops in Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre: Lowest Figure Since 2008

Tarragona regions record 35,559 jobless in May, with a notable increase in Social Security affiliates.

The Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre regions concluded May with 35,559 unemployed individuals, the lowest figure since July 2008, marking a reduction of 947 jobless people (-2.56%).

The improvement in the labor market is reflected in the records of the Ministry of Inclusion and Social Security, which in May counted 368,909 affiliated individuals in the Tarragona regions. This represents an increase of 6,858 new employed people compared to the previous month (+1.89%) and 2.48% more than the previous year.
Tarragona ranks as the Catalan province, after Barcelona, with the highest number of unemployed individuals. However, regarding Social Security affiliation, the Tarragona regions hold the third position in Catalonia.
The analysis of unemployment reveals that women are the most affected, with 21,189 jobless individuals, compared to 14,370 men. Furthermore, 2,352 people under 25 years old are currently unemployed.
The services sector continues to concentrate the largest number of unemployed in the province of Tarragona, with 24,961 people, although it has seen a decrease of 804 individuals. Industry (3,197), construction (2,746), and agriculture (1,213) remain the other sectors with the most jobless people.
During May, a total of 21,780 new employment contracts were formalized in the Tarragona and Ebre regions. Of these, 10,616 were permanent contracts and 11,164 were temporary.
