The president of the Diputació de Tarragona, Noemí Llauradó, handed over the glasses, allocating 1,000 to the Mossos d'Esquadra, another 1,000 to the Firefighters, and 200 to the Rural Agents. This provision responds to a request from these security forces of the Generalitat de Catalunya and was formalized at an event held at the Palau de la Diputació.
The event was attended by representatives of the security forces, such as the head of the Regional Police of Camp de Tarragona of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Vicenç Lleonart, and the head of the Territorial Unit of the Emergency Region of Tarragona of the Firefighters, Guillem Guinjoan, as well as the head of the Rural Agents Corps of Catalonia in Camp de Tarragona, Alícia Bayán. Also present were the fourth vice-president of the Diputació, Marta Ventura, and the deputy Jordi Molinera.
Noemí Llauradó highlighted the importance of these personnel in ensuring a satisfactory and safe experience during the eclipse. "They always watch over the safety of the citizens, and now we watch over theirs, as much as we can," stated the president, emphasizing the institutional collaboration between the Diputació and the Generalitat.
This initiative is part of a series of actions by the Diputació de Tarragona to support the eclipse logistics. Previously, 100,000 glasses were distributed among municipalities with up to 2,500 inhabitants and those with up to 20,000 inhabitants identified by the Generalitat as priority locations for safe observation, such as Gandesa, Montbrió del Camp, Móra la Nova, Camarles, Santa Bàrbara, l'Aldea, Altafulla, Constantí, l'Ametlla de Mar, Alcanar, and Torredembarra.
The institution has also contributed financially to awareness activities, organized informational sessions about the astronomical phenomenon, and provides information through its website.
