Two archaeological survey campaigns will take place during the second half of October and the first half of November in the Tivissa-Vandellòs mountains and the Ports massif, aiming to expand knowledge of ancient settlement in the southern Catalan pre-coastal range.

The activities are part of the four-year project Poblament de muntanya de la serralada prelitoral sud-catalana (Mountain Settlement of the Southern Catalan Pre-coastal Range), directed by Dr. Jordi López from the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), and Dr. Josep Maria Vergès from the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES).
In the Tivissa-Vandellòs mountains, the work will focus on Mola de Genessies, a site of difficult access located between the municipalities of Vandellòs and Tivissa. Its elevated position offers great visibility of the territory and preserves remains of dry stone walls and structures, with archaeological materials ranging from prehistory to the medieval period, notably from the late Roman and Visigothic eras.
The campaign at Mola de Genessies will include the creation of a detailed topography, a photogrammetric record of visible structures, material surveys, and the opening of test pits to deepen the understanding of the site.
In the Ports massif, in Tortosa, surveys will resume from those initiated last March. At that time, twelve caves and shelters were studied, yielding prehistoric records in five and Roman materials in two. In this new phase, twelve more cavities will be visited and four previously delimited areas will be surveyed, describing them and examining visible surface materials to establish occupation chronologies.
These activities will take place in the municipalities of Tortosa, Roquetes, Paüls, and Alfara de Carles, with the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
