Raül García, from ERC, was officially sworn in as the new mayor of Torredembarra on Saturday, June 13, succeeding Vale Pino with the support of the governing pact.

Five days after the resignation of Vale Pino, Raül García (ERC) has sworn the oath of office as the new mayor of Torredembarra in an extraordinary plenary session. The investiture continues the government pact between ERC, PSC, and Junts, signed in 2023. García, who has served as a councilor since 2015 and was responsible for Waste and Cleaning for the past three years, will lead the City Council for the final year of the term.
In his first speech as the municipality's top official, García emphasized that they are "at a key moment." He thanked his predecessors for their work and outlined the main challenges for the coming months, including housing, cleaning, and security. He also highlighted projects such as the rehabilitation of the Escorxador for public use, the construction of the new CAP (health center) and improvements to its surroundings, the completion of the auditorium theater, and the enhancement of the old town through the new call for the Pla de Barris (Neighborhood Plan), in which "we have high hopes."
Visibly emotional, García stated that despite his years of municipal experience, he does not consider himself a professional politician and has "no aspirations beyond Torredembarra." Therefore, he affirmed that being mayor of Torredembarra, his hometown, represents "the most important challenge of my life."
The vote followed the expected script: the government (ERC, PSC, Junts) voted in favor, while the PP and the CUP abstained. Alternativa and Vox voted against; the spokesperson for the latter party called for the new mayor's resignation following the ongoing investigation into the contracting of the waste company PreZero.
