The Tarragona City Council and the Municipal Tourism Board are landing at FITUR Madrid 2026 to promote the city as a historical and sports destination, highlighting the start of the Tour de France's Gran Départ.

Tarragona's presence at the most important international tourism fair in Spain is intensified this year by recovering its own dedicated space within the Catalonia stand, managed by the Agència Catalana de Turisme. This move, which hasn't happened since 2018, aims to project the brand and quality of the tourist destination. Nevertheless, the city will maintain its participation in the corner format proposed by the Diputació de Tarragona Tourism Board.
The central promotional event, organized by the Municipal Tourism Board and Tarragona Esports, will take place on Thursday, January 22 at 2 PM. The presentation will focus on the fusion of sport and Tarragona's history over 2,000 years. The event will feature prominent sports figures such as former professional cyclist Perico Delgado, local athlete Mireia López, and former Galician basketball player Fernando Romay.

Concurrently, the Mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, will have an intense institutional agenda on the morning of the same Thursday. The Mayor will be present at the signing of the agreement between the Grupo Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad (GCPHE) and the Asociación Nacional de Ciudades Mexicanas Patrimonio Mundial, initiating mutual collaborations. He will also participate in the executive meeting of GCPHE mayors and the subsequent assembly.
The institutional meetings will culminate at 5 PM with the signing of the agreement with Visa España regarding the use of anonymized card usage data in the group's cities. Furthermore, the city will be present at the promotional event for the Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre as a cycling tourism territory. Finally, Tarragona will also take part in the presentation of the Guía Repsol campaign and the Soles Repsol Gala, highlighting gastronomy with the presence of Moha Quach, chef at Restaurant El Terrat.
