The municipality of Torredembarra was the scene of a historic day yesterday marked by the total solar eclipse. The astronomical event generated great anticipation, attracting approximately 2,700 people to the official observation area located in the Roques Planes industrial park. In addition to this main venue, hundreds of residents and visitors chose to watch the phenomenon from different elevated points in the town and private terraces.
The official site, recommended by the Generalitat for its optimal conditions of visibility, capacity, and safety, received a massive public response. Attendees, who had quickly exhausted the pre-registration slots, followed preventive instructions and used the certified glasses provided by the organization to safely observe the eclipse's progression to totality.
Throughout the afternoon, the venue became a festive and family gathering point. The wait until the total darkness, which occurred just before sunset, was enlivened with educational activities, music, and children's workshops organized by local entities. This playful, civic, and orderly atmosphere allowed attendees to enjoy the phenomenon without notable incidents.
The celebration did not end with the eclipse. Many attendees took advantage of the venue remaining open until midnight to extend the evening and observe the Perseid meteor shower, thus concluding a memorable double astronomical event.
