The city councils of Tarragona and La Canonja have agreed on a new model for the provision and financing of the public transport service connecting both municipalities. The objective is to guarantee its continuity and establish a stable, proportional, and sustainable system for both administrations. This agreement recognizes that lines L3 and L30 are a shared service, as they meet the mobility needs of both residents of La Canonja and neighborhoods in Tarragona such as Bonavista, Campclar, Torreforta, and La Granja. The service will be reinstated under the same terms as previously offered.
The new model is based on technical reports from the Municipal Transport Company of Tarragona (EMT), which analyze the effective use of the service using the user-kilometer criterion. This indicator considers the number of users and the journeys made, providing an objective basis for distributing the service costs between the two municipalities. Data indicates that 70% of the user-kilometers for the L3 and L30 expeditions originating or terminating in La Canonja correspond to this municipality, while the remaining 30% is linked to Tarragona.
According to this criterion, La Canonja will bear 70% of the service cost and Tarragona 30%. Based on an estimated annual cost by the EMT of €1,612,341.62, the contributions would be €1,128,639.13 for La Canonja and €483,702.49 for Tarragona.

Both city councils agree on the need for a model that provides long-term stability and security to the service, responding to the real mobility needs of citizens and allowing it to adapt to demand evolution. The mayors of La Canonja, Roc Muñoz, and Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, emphasize that the priority has been to preserve the service and facilitate mobility between the two municipalities. The city councils will continue working with the EMT to monitor the lines' operation and adapt the service when necessary.
