The event, held at the Council's headquarters, included the participation of president Joan Martí Pla and representatives from senior citizen associations in Salomó, Roda de Berà, Els Pallaresos, and Tàrraco. The manifesto emphasizes the institutional commitment to ensuring a leading and participatory role for this group.
It calls for a solvent and sustainable public pension system, as well as accessible and quality dependency care. The concern regarding unwanted loneliness, isolation, and difficulties accessing preventive health services was also addressed, requesting a reinforcement of community networks and public policies.
“"From the Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès, we want to advocate for active, autonomous, participatory, and visible older persons. We want to do so with respect, but also with recognition: a society that listens to its elders better utilizes all their talent and experience."
The Consell Comarcal del Tarragonès also promotes the Consell Consultiu de la Gent Gran (CCGG), a consultative and participatory body created to channel aspects related to older persons and their associations in the region. Representatives of the entities within the CCGG commit to collaborating and providing all means to carry out the General Assembly's agreements and inform their members. This promotes events, discussion forums, and assemblies for the elderly to address and seek solutions for social, health, cultural, and economic issues of old age.
