The Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition has tendered works for two fundamental actions to complete the tram infrastructure implementation in the section between Cambrils Nord and Vila-seca Estació. These interventions, to be carried out in the municipality of Vila-seca, amount to approximately 14.4 million euros.
The works include the construction of a new viaduct on Ramon d’Olzina Avenue, which will allow the tram to pass under the ADIF railway line, and a new pedestrian underpass that will ensure access to the Vila-seca Estació stop. According to the minister, Sílvia Paneque, these actions are "two key actions to complete the tram infrastructure implementation" and "will transform the mobility of the Camp de Tarragona".
These structures will provide continuity to the tram platform and create a new interchange station with the existing railway network in Vila-seca. The underpass will improve the connection between the future tram stop and the urban fabric, increasing accessibility and integration with the environment. The uniqueness of these works lies in the need to intervene on an operational railway infrastructure.
The works are expected to begin next spring and have an execution period of 15 months. The new underpass will be built using a push-box method under the railway line, a solution that minimizes impact on railway operations, and will be completed with access ramps and retaining walls.
The construction of the viaduct is essential to guarantee the continuity of the tram platform and the mobility of pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Both interventions have been carefully planned and coordinated with ADIF.
This action is part of the first phase of the Camp de Tarragona tram, connecting Cambrils, Vila-seca, and Salou. The Generalitat has ongoing works valued at over 150 million euros to configure the tram system and the future operational center of FGC, aiming to increase public transport use and advance decarbonization.
