Terra Alta leads young population with higher education in Terres de l'Ebre

The region records the highest percentage of young people aged 18-24 with university or higher vocational training.

Terra Alta concluded 2024 as the region in Terres de l'Ebre with the highest proportion of young people (aged 18-24) holding higher education qualifications, reaching 41.7%.

This figure places the region in a prominent position at the Catalan level, surpassed only by Pallars Sobirà (43.4%), Pla de l'Estany (42.9%), and Vallès Occidental (41.9%). The data, released by the Institut d’Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), also shows that Ribera d’Ebre ranks second within Terres de l'Ebre with 38.9%, followed by Montsià (36.2%) and Baix Ebre (34.9%).
At the municipal level, Freginals leads the Ebre region's ranking for population over 15 with higher education (34.5%), followed by Ascó (32.2%) and Tivissa (31.4%). Municipalities like Tortosa (28.3%), Amposta (26.2%), and Gandesa (21.9%) show lower percentages. Comparatively, the Catalan municipalities with the best records are Sant Cugat del Vallès (63.4%), Renau (62.2%), and Sant Just Desvern (61.5%). Interestingly, Terra Alta ranks last in the country for the regional percentage of the population over 15 with higher education (22%), indicating a higher average age in the region.
In Catalonia, 36.7% of the population aged 15 and over had higher education qualifications. The percentage was slightly higher for women (38.6%) than for men (34.7%). Regarding educational levels, 12.8% had primary education or lower, 27.2% had the first stage of secondary education, and 23.3% had the second stage.
Analyzing by country of birth, among residents in Catalonia with over 20,000 inhabitants, citizens from Italy (66.6%), the United Kingdom (64.7%), and Germany (61.5%) showed the highest percentages of higher education. In contrast, Senegal (37.0%), Pakistan (36.5%), and Morocco (33.7%) led in the percentages of the population with primary education or lower. Among the population born in Spain, 37.8% had higher education.
