The 51st edition of the Sant Ermengol Pageant finally commenced this Sunday in the Cloister of the Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Seu d’Urgell, after rain delayed the planned start for Friday and Saturday.

Performances will be held nightly until Saturday, August 15th, weather permitting, at 10 PM, lasting approximately 90 minutes. The spectacle recounts the life of Bishop Ermengol and part of the history of La Seu d’Urgell.
The president of the Pageant Association, Sònia Lanau, highlighted the project's intergenerational nature, uniting around a hundred people from various backgrounds in the town and region, forming a large family. She emphasized that it's a volunteer-driven performance, with no professionals, combining lights and music in an unparalleled setting.
This year, under the artistic direction of Xavier Piguillem, new stage and technical elements are being introduced as part of a progressive renovation towards the 70th anniversary of the first performance. The Battle of Córdoba will be enhanced, a new scene about the consecration of the church of Sant Pere de Frontanyà will be included, along with a scene designed for children. Visual projections and music will also be improved.
Piguillem detailed that these changes will be implemented over two years, with half planned for 2026 and the rest for 2027. He expressed the team's enthusiasm for offering a "very beautiful, very spectacular" performance and encouraged the audience to also discover the human and civil dimensions of Bishop Ermengol, beyond the religious aspect.
Actor Santi Sesé, who plays Bishop Ermengol, is in his fifth year participating in the spectacle, noting the pleasant and historic team atmosphere and the significance of the character he portrays.
Tickets can be purchased on the official website [https://retaulesantermengol.com/](https://retaulesantermengol.com/), at Espai Ermengol, and at the box office. Prices are €16 for general advance tickets, €15 for reduced (youth card, SX3, and seniors), and free for children under 5. As a new offering, a combined package with the Cathedral Museum is available for €21, including a visit to the "hidden corners" and a pageant ticket.
Seats are unnumbered, and early arrival is recommended. The Sant Ermengol Pageant remains one of the most significant cultural and heritage events in La Seu d’Urgell, a performance created by and for the local community.
