The event, titled '1964. The origin of a style', aims to commemorate the sixties, a pivotal period for society and culture. The celebration will highlight the emergence of the Borges brand as it is known today and the first steps of the legendary pop-rock group Los Sírex.
The day-long event, taking place on Saturday, June 13, will offer a combination of live music, a varied selection of food trucks, wine tastings, and a photographic exhibition illustrating Tàrrega during that era. This initiative by Mas de Colom seeks to connect the company's history with the trajectory of one of the country's musical icons.
Although the company was founded 130 years ago, the Borges brand began to be used on the labeling of its products, such as oils and nuts, from 1964. In the same year, the first packaged oil factory was inaugurated in Tàrrega, a fact that marked a revolution in the company's production process.
The Barcelona-based group Los Sírex, renowned for their long career, also emerged in the sixties, coinciding with the rise of rock-and-roll. They left a significant mark with hits that are still part of the Spanish musical repertoire of that decade. Among their most notable achievements, they were the opening act for The Beatles at a concert in Barcelona in 1965.
The event will kick off at 7:00 PM with the opening of the gastronomic area, enlivened by a musical selection of vinyl records from the sixties and seventies by dj Sr. Bailón. The culinary offerings will include food trucks such as Kabuki Karamel, RockandRaola, La Salivera, and Hanna Veganna, providing options for all tastes, including vegan and gluten-free alternatives, crepes, and ice creams made with Borges products, as well as tastings of extra virgin olive oil from Mas de Colom, and wines from the Analec winery.
At 8:30 PM, Los Sírex will perform a live concert with Leslie (vocals), Pep Fontseré (rhythm guitar), and Juanjo Calvo (lead guitar), playing hits like La escoba, Que se mueran los feos, and El tren de la costa. The celebration will continue after the performance with more music by dj Sr. Bailón, covering up to the eighties.
Throughout the day, Mas de Colom – Casa Borges will host a photographic exhibition, supported by the Arxiu Comarcal de l'Urgell, allowing attendees to view historical images of Los Sírex's beginnings, Borges products from the sixties, and what life was like in Tàrrega during that period. Spaces are limited, so it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance for 15 euros, which include a drink and a commemorative glass.
