The auditorium of the Germanes Güell Library in Tàrrega hosted last Thursday the presentation of the Singulars project. This initiative aims to facilitate access to local, healthy, and quality products, while supporting local producers and businesses through a fairer distribution model.
Singulars brings together professionals from the entire agri-food chain with the goal of offering consumers food produced in Catalonia at affordable prices. The project will enable more than 5,000 local products from a thousand producers to reach nearly 400 establishments.
“"When we consume local products, we not only nourish our bodies, but we also nourish the territory."
The event featured Marc Talavera, promoter of the platform, and Roger Prat, owner of Fem Cadena de Tàrrega, a shop that has long championed the sale of local and zero-kilometer products. Prat highlighted the importance of consuming local products and recalled that Singulars began to take shape two years ago as a "bold" and "long-dreamed-of" proposal for the region.
Its promoters argue that the project will help strengthen Catalonia's food sovereignty by creating a structure that benefits both producers and consumers. Key advantages include reducing intermediaries, allowing farmers and producers to receive fairer remuneration. Businesses, regardless of their size, will be able to access a wide catalog of products from different producers through a single logistics and commercial platform.
Transparency is another cornerstone of Singulars. The project will allow consumers to know the origin of products, their production process, and the remuneration received by producers, thus ensuring greater traceability and more equitable commercial relationships. Through this initiative, Singulars aims to consolidate a local consumption network capable of strengthening the Catalan productive and commercial fabric, promoting healthier and more sustainable food.
